Abstract

Environmental literacy is one of the important aspects in building students' knowledge and concern for their surrounding environment. Adiwiyata schools have great potential to support the strengthening of environmental literacy through the utilisation of the school environment as a learning resource. However, the presence of various types of trees in the school environment has not always been accompanied by students' knowledge of the identity and scientific names of those plants. Based on preliminary observation, this issue was also found at MAN 1 Magelang as a partner in the work program activities as part of the Integrated Educational Internship Program of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at Universitas Tidar, where students generally recognised plants by their local names rather than their scientific names, so the potential of the school environment as a learning medium has not been optimally utilised. This activity aims to provide an educational medium in the form of scientific name labels on trees in the MAN 1 Magelang environment to support the strengthening of students' environmental literacy. The methods of the activity include tree identification, determination of scientific names, preparation of information on labels, label creation, and label installation on the identified trees. The results show that 15 plant species were successfully identified and all of them were equipped with labels containing local and scientific names installed on the tree trunks. These scientific name labels are used as educational media that students can directly access when they are in the school environment. This activity is expected to help students recognise the diversity of trees in the school environment while also making the school environment a contextual learning space. This program is expected to support the strengthening of an environmental care culture and the optimisation of the MAN 1 Magelang environment as a learning medium in supporting the Adiwiyata School program.
